The number of Northampton College students achieving high grades at GCSE has risen ' with teachers praising students for their astounding resilience amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The number of students achieving a high grade (grade 4-9) in maths increased by six per cent year-on-year, while there was also a five per cent rise for English.
The results back up the college's status as the leading provider of further education in the South East Midlands region and further build on the most recent Ofsted inspection, which rated the college as good' with outstanding features'.
Despite the upheaval caused by lockdown ' which saw students switch to a remote learning model - GCSE results at the College remained strong, with an overall pass rate of 100 per cent.
Principal of Northampton College, Pat Brennan-Barrett, said: We are thrilled to see so many people now able to progress and move on in their lives having achieved the grades they need at GCSE during what has been an incredibly challenging year.
The increase in the number of students achieving high grades is particularly pleasing and is just reward for their astounding resilience and willingness to work hard.
This year group has been presented with challenges the likes of which we have never seen before yet they have taken them in their stride and shown flexibility and an appetite for learning that will stand them in good stead for the rest of their lives.
I am also incredibly proud of our staff who have worked so hard to support their students throughout the year. They have embraced the changes and were able to switch to a new way of working with minimal disruption to students' learning. They have made a real difference.
Northampton College will honour all offers already made to study at any of its three campuses ' at Booth Lane, Lower Mounts or Daventry ' based on Centre Assessed Grades (CAGs).
For any student whose grades do not meet the entry requirements of their chosen course, the college will accept the Centre Assessed Grades as an alternative, giving every student wishing to study at Further or Higher Education level the chance to join their preferred course with Northampton College from this September.
