Our £500,000 Green Skills Centre is a flagship renewable energies education and training facility where students learn about sustainable construction methods and materials.
This fantastic resource is strengthening the region’s construction and built environment workforce by providing them with specialist green construction skills which are needed across the UK.
It provides our Construction students with daily access to the latest green technologies and is also used to reskill adults who want to move into the construction industry and to upskill existing professionals in the sector.
Designed by leading decarbonisation specialist and renewable training provider Quantum, our Green Skills Centre features rigs and bays for:
- Air source heat pumps
- Ground source heat pumps
- Solar PV
- Solar thermal
- Wind generation
- Electrification of vehicles
- EV charging.
Students receive training on top-of-the-range low carbon technologies such as Daikin air source heat pumps.
The centre is also used by Northampton College to support a variety of green initiatives, such as the Big Rig Low Carbon Challenge, which promote sustainable construction careers to hundreds of secondary school students across Northamptonshire annually.
Our industry partners
The Green Skills Centre is supported by several of our key industry partners, including Castle Climate Control and Thorn Electrical. Together we are developing a range of competency and licence-to-practice courses in various green technologies.
The centre, which is next to our Advanced Construction Engineering Centre, is also being used to support our partnership with the University of Northampton to research efficient design and implementation of low carbon adoption.
