During the first year of the course, you will develop the skills needed for a wide range of careers within the sector, before completing the occupational specialism of adult nursing in year two. Science plays a key part in this qualification so most of your first years? learning will take place in our purpose-built science laboratory whilst the second year is within the mock hospital ward we have on campus.
The intent of this programme is to prepare students to enter the Health workforce prepared both clinically and academically. To give them the skills and confidence essential to high quality health care delivery. In work placement students will be given the opportunity to shadow, observe and practice clinical skills assessments and procedures. As part of industry placement and induction students complete the Care Certificate. Planned progression route is to second year and then higher education for Nursing or other Health related degrees. Some may choose to go directly into employment in the Health sector. Our aim is to give you the skills identified by NHS that you need to be successful in employment: Using initiative, willingness to put self forward, resilience, being work ready and having the skills to communicate effectively.

What will I study?
Core units:
- Working within the healthcare sector
- Health & Safety including safeguarding
- Providing person-centred care
- Scientific and clinical practice
- Core and further science concepts in health
- Start to develop skills in taking measurements and assessing patients
Specialist units:
- Assist with clinical tasks and treatment for children and young people
- Provide care and support to children and young people before, during and after clinical or therapeutic procedures
- Support parents, families and carers to meet the needs of the children and young people.

Who is this course for?
This course is ideal if you have an interest in the health sector and wish to gain a Level 3, T Level qualification in Paediatric/Children's Nursing.

Your Study Programme
If you are aged 16-18, you will join a Study Programme this could be a vocational or technical qualification. We will make sure you are working at the right level on your core qualification and are challenged to achieve the highest level of qualification you can.
Work experience will be part of your study programme and complement your college study and prepare you for employment. You will also get involved in activities to help you develop life skills and to build your confidence so you can make progress in your career.
If you have chosen to study for a T Level qualification, this will involve college-based theory and practice lessons along with relevant work placement to enable you to gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours that employers are looking for.
Weekly timetables will include tutorial support which may comprise of full group activities or one to one sessions to discuss individual progress or support needs.
All students will continue to improve their maths and English and if you don't have a grade 4 (C) at GCSE, we will work with you towards achieving that goal (subject to specific entry requirements for particular courses).

You may be required to go on trips or purchase a kit and uniform to undertake this course. Information about individual items and their associated costs will be sent to you in June/July before you enrol.

Progression and Career Opportunities
This course can lead directly to jobs including a senior carer, HCA, support worker plus many more. You may find work as a hospital, care home, with voluntary and private agencies or with families. You will also be able to access Higher Education, and progress to professional training in Health and Care, including nursing, midwifery, paramedic science for example

Entry Requirements for new students
- Five GCSEs at grade 9-4
- English and Maths GCSEs must be at grade 5 or higher and Science GCSE must be at grade 4 or higher
- Equivalent qualifications may be considered.
- In exceptional circumstances, applications which do not meet the formal entry criteria may be considered on an individual basis.

Once you have applied our experienced Enrolment Team will consider your application carefully and will let you know, by email, if the College would like to make you a conditional offer based on you meeting the specified entry requirements.
If you have applied for A Levels, before an offer is made, you will be invited to attend an interview from April onwards.
