This apprenticeship is ideal for aspiring barbers. Through paid employment, apprentices gain hands-on experience while receiving structured training and support directly in the workplace. This course is designed to equip barbers with practical knowledge and skills needed to complete a range of barbering services on clients.

  • What will I study?

    Knowledge: ? Legal, organisational, and health and safety requirements relevant to the barbering business ? Employment rights and responsibilities ? Barbering professionalism, values, industry codes of conduct, best practice & ethics ? The role and function of the front of house or reception area in a barbershop ? Client care principles & practices ? Awareness of mental health & wellbeing of self & clients.

    Skills: ? Carry out a consultation, examine and analyse the hair & scalp ? Prepare the hair for barbering services ? Cut hair using a range of barbering cutting techniques, to create a variety of looks, taking account of factors influencing the service & the steps required to achieve the desired look ? Restyle the hair by changing the length, bulk or shape to achieve a significant/clear different style ? Create basic outlines & detailing in hair ? Design, create & maintain a variety of facial hair shapes and looks ? Style and finish hair to create a variety of barbering looks ? Provide shaving and facial massage services safely. Behaviours: ?     This course is ideal if you have a passion for men?s hair, your creative, have good people skills and have an interest in Barbering

    ? Completion of practical skills ? Completion of knowledge tests ? End Point Assessment with City and guilds

    • Tunic - trousers/leggings - can be ordered from college
    • Basic Barbering kit - this can be ordered from college and is basic due to being able to use college equipment and products.
  • Progression and Career Opportunities

    The barbering role can open doors to further career opportunities, such as positions in management or hairdressing roles.

  • Entry Requirements for new students

    Level 2 apprenticeship - Math's and English GCSE grade 3 (or equivalent) required

  • Admissions Process

    There is no set start date for this apprenticeship. However, there are two ways become an apprentice at Northampton College:
