Dive into the world of Esports with our new Level 2 Esports qualification, putting you at the forefront of one of the fastest-growing industries today. Competitive gaming is an international sensation, boasting millions of fans and significant earning potential.

This new course emphasizes the creative production aspects of Esports, rather than gameplay. You will organize and market Esports tournaments in our newly designed Esports Arena in our Digital Academy. The curriculum includes marketing your events across various digital platforms and broadcasting tournaments on streaming services like Twitch.

Additionally, you will enhance your video production skills by operating cameras and sound equipment, and working in the control room with a vision mixer to broadcast professional-looking tournaments. You'll also utilize your video production abilities to create edited promotional material for various digital platforms to promote your events.

As part of the course, you will develop your confidence in communicating with audiences, building on your presentation skills so that you are able to promote events and talk to potential clients.

Delivery methods will encompass practical workshop sessions in our PC suites using industry-standard software. Classroom-based theory sessions will be complemented by IT and computer-based research, as well as educational visits to industry trade fairs and other Esports-related events. Additionally, you'll have the chance to gain a better understanding of the professional world through available work experience opportunities.

After studying the new Level 2 Esports qualification at Northampton College you will have the opportunity to further your aspirations by progressing on to our Level 3 Esports course whereby you will have the opportunity to further develop both your practical and business skills.

  • Who is this course for?

    This course is ideal for you if you have an interest in working in marketing, social media or working in the Esports industry or progressing to a higher level (HND and/or degree level) and wish to gain a Level 2 qualification in Esports.

  • How is the course assessed?

    This course is assessed through:

    • practical assignments, internally assessed
    • written assignments, internally assessed
  • Your Study Programme

    If you are aged 16-18, you will join a Study Programme this could be a vocational or technical qualification. We will make sure you are working at the right level on your core qualification and are challenged to achieve the highest level of qualification you can.

    Work experience will be part of your study programme and complement your college study and prepare you for employment. You will also get involved in activities to help you develop life skills and to build your confidence so you can make progress in your career.

    Weekly timetables will include tutorial support which may comprise of full group activities or one to one sessions to discuss individual progress or support needs.

    All students will continue to improve their maths and English and if you don't have a grade 4 (C) at GCSE, we will work with you towards achieving that goal (subject to specific entry requirements for particular courses).

  • General info

    Students will be expected to purchase some basic equipment relevant to the course. This will be conveyed to them in the form of a kit list, sent via email during the summer before they enrol.

    There may be opportunities to go on trips throughout the year, the cost of these will be discussed with students ahead of time.

  • Progression and Career Opportunities

    Due to the competitive nature of this field, the majority of students studying Esports progress on to University to specialise within their chosen field. Following obtaining a degree or HND, students can move in to the following roles: Esports Caster, Esports Commentator, Game Analyst and Esports Social Media Executives.

  • Entry Requirements for new students

    Four GCSEs at grade 3 including English Language or Literature or an appropriate Level 1 programme with English and maths GCSE at grade 3

    We recommend that you attend one of our exciting open events so that you can look around the department, the college and meet the tutors. You are welcome to do this before or after you apply. These events have proved very successful in ensuring students and their families see the best of what the college has to offer such as our inspirational teaching areas, teachers, library facilities and places to eat.
