This is a fantastic, exciting industry to work in. It is customer focused, diverse and sociable and the Level 2 Beauty Therapy course will give you the opportunity to develop the skills needed to work in this fashion dominated industry. It will give you an insight into working as a therapist and allow you to develop the key knowledge and skills required to work in a salon before progressing on to a Level 3 qualification. This course covers a wide range of beauty treatments. The method of learning is by a mixture of both practical and theory sessions.

  • What will I study?

    The units you will study are likely to include:

    Core Units:

    • Manicure, pedicure and gel polish
    • Facials for Men and Women
    • Make-up
    • Waxing and threading
    • Eye Treatments
    • Principles of practices including working in industry and health and safety
    • Anatomy and Physiology
    • Retail and Reception
    • Client Care and Communication

    All units are subject to change and may be withdrawn.

  • Who is this course for?

    This course is ideal for you if you have an interest in beauty therapy and wish to gain a Level 2 qualification in beauty therapy.

  • How is the course assessed?

    By practical and theory exams. You may also be required to produce assignments/homework/tasks to a deadline.

    Personal appearance is part of the awarding body's criteria. You will be expected to adhere to a strict dress code: no jewellery, long hair tied back, short un-varnished nails and a specified uniform to be worn.

  • Your Study Programme

    If you are aged 16-18, you will join a Study Programme. We will make sure you are working at the right level on your core qualification and are challenged to achieve the highest level of qualification you can. All students will continue to improve their maths and English and if you don't have a grade 4 (C) at GCSE, we will work with you towards achieving that goal (subject to specific entry requirements for particular courses). Work experience will be part of your study programme and complement your college study and prepare you for employment. You will also get involved in activities to help you develop life skills and to build your confidence so you can make progress in your career. Weekly timetables will include tutorial support which may comprise of full group activities or one to one sessions to discuss individual progress or support needs.

    You will develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of:

    • How to perform consultations for manual and technical therapies and to design treatment plans

    • How to develop and maintain salon procedures to safely control work operations

    • The organisation of the body and the structure and functions of cells, tissues, organs and systems.

    You will have the ability to:

    • Maintain safe and effective methods of working to meet industry requirements

    • Implement, perform and adapt manual beauty therapy techniques

    • Provide written, post treatment advice and recommendations.

  • General info

    Students will be required to purchase the following prior to enrolment:

    • Beauty Therapy Kit - approximately £380
    • Uniform - approximately £50

    To enhance this course we arrange trips to trade shows and offer extra optional courses, which will incur additional costs. Please allow approximately £50.

    Students from low income households will be able to apply to the Bursary fund to assist with the costs of equipment and uniform.

  • Progression and Career Opportunities

    After successful completion of this course you could progress to Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Beauty Therapy or Level 2 Technical Certificate in Hairdressing. Alternatively, you may choose to seek employment in a beauty salon or work as a freelance therapist.

  • Entry Requirements for new students

    Four GCSEs at Grade 3. Relevant experience may be considered as Adult students must have suitable work/life experience

  • Admissions Process

    We recommend that you attend one of our exciting open events so that you can look around the department, the college and meet the tutors. You are welcome to do this before or after you apply. These events have proved very successful in ensuring students and their families see the best of what the college has to offer such as our inspirational teaching areas, teachers, library facilities and places to eat.
    Once you have applied our experienced Enrolment Team will consider your application carefully and will let you know, by email, if the College would like to make you a conditional offer based on you meeting the specified entry requirements.
