After I had completed my GCSEs I had to make a big decision for my future.
Choosing between sixth form and college as well as my future career was the biggest decision I have ever had to make. Consulting with friends and family was beneficial and I decided to study a business course at Northampton College.
The main reason why I chose to study at Northampton College over sixth form was that I needed to become independent, it was always structured at school and I felt that I needed to make a change. I was receiving support from my school to deal with challenges I was facing so it was important that I received this support when I began studying at college.
The difference made between the start and end of my first year was incredible, I was able to come out of my shell and be who I really was and that made me a better person. I set myself a goal, to make a difference.
I did exactly that but I wouldn’t have been able to if it weren’t for the caring and supportive Northampton College Staff.
The college was able to support me by providing free lunches and transport which I couldn’t afford. This allowed me to get to college and perform to the best of my abilities which a sixth form could not offer.
I had always considered teachers to be strict but my perception was changed when I joined Northampton College. They were always able to resolve my issues and help me overcome challenging assignments and this contributed heavily to my success in my first year.
I received an award for my achievements from the college which wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support and resources that I received during my time at Northampton College.
Picking college over sixth form was the best decision of my life. Without doing so I wouldn’t have the confidence and skills that I do now to aid me in starting my dream career. I want as many young people to enjoy the plethora of opportunities that I have received but that is only possible with additional funding so students from all backgrounds can reach their dreams and aid the world by bringing it into an exciting and prosperous future.
