"I wanted to study Civil Engineering and was offered a conditional place, but I hadn’t achieved the required grade in my maths GCSE so I was offered the Construction Multi-skills course and I loved it from day one.
I was concerned about getting a place at college because of my GCSE maths grade. Thankfully, the lady I spoke on results day reassured me and suggested the course. I readily accepted because I knew I wanted to be at the College and I knew that if I worked hard, I would be able to do the Civil Engineering course in the future if I wished.
"I went to an extremely small school with only four pupils in my year group. The new environment at college seemed daunting at first but everyone made me feel at ease and the large size of college didn’t bother me at all and being treated like an adult gave me confidence.
"I’ve enjoyed every aspect of the course so far and I’m looking forward to returning in September to continue learning more trades. I have definitely learned a lot, including how things work in the real world. Meeting new people has given me confidence and I am a lot more independent."
