We understand that many adults’ digital skills hold them back from gaining skilled employment. In fact, 1 in 10 adults have never accessed the internet.
For this reason, our short courses start from the very basics, such as accessing the internet and sending an email; but continue through to longer level 1 and 2 courses, highly regarded by employers, which prepare learners to take on employment within an office environment.
What will you study?
We deliver a large range of IT courses for adults at every level to support work-readiness or study at university-level.
Our five-week entry courses are taught to small groups of adult learners, many of whom had poor experiences of education growing up. These courses will introduce you to the basics of searching the internet safely to find information or enable you to search purposefully for employment opportunities.
We also have courses that will introduce you to the basics of email and composing short texts so that you can write letters or documents to communicate. We have a dedicated Skills Centres at Lower Mounts and at Badby Road in Daventry for courses at level 1 and 2 where you can book in to study at a time to suit you – there are sessions in the morning, afternoons and evenings, and each session is led by expert technicians and teachers, who are always on hand to help you out. Our courses can be studied intensively if you need to upskill rapidly.
You will need to use Microsoft Office software in most situations. Our courses at Level 1 and 2 will help you to improve skills in Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel. You can work on just one of these or develop them into larger employer-recognised qualifications.
Funding of IT courses
Government funding rules that came into place September 2020 mean many learners are able to study at level 1 and below free of charge.
In addition, Level 2 courses are also often free of charge to learners, depending on income - please call 0300 123 2344 for more information.
